The Source of Life

The water on Earth today is the same water that has moved through our planet for billions of years. It has fallen as rain and snow, flowed through rivers, rested in lakes and oceans, traveled underground, risen into clouds, and passed through countless living things. Water is always moving, always changing form, but never leaving the great cycle that sustains life.
Las Cachinches is part of this ancient journey. Seasonal rains awaken the arroyo, gathering water from across the watershed and carrying it through the heart of San Miguel. Pools form among the rocks. Plants flourish along its banks. Insects, amphibians, birds, and mammals find water, food, and shelter. When the stream grows quiet in the dry season, the cycle continues—until the rains return once again.
Water connects everything it touches. It nourishes forests and fields, shapes landscapes, grows our food, and sustains every plant, animal, and person. Yet the fresh water available to life is precious, and what happens to it as it moves through our communities matters. Pollution, trash, and the loss of vegetation can affect its journey, while healthy soils and plants help slow, absorb, and filter the rain.
To care for Las Cachinches is to care for water—and for the web of life it sustains. The water flowing here is ancient. It has been many places before us, and its journey will continue long after us.

ARTIST STATEMENT
The work offers a contemplative view of water through the reflections, movements, and forms of life that inhabit its surface. By observing an everyday moment, the mural invites us to recognize the beauty and complexity of phenomena that often go unnoticed.
The moon, reflected in the water, evokes natural cycles, feminine creativity, and the life-giving power of nature. Through a poetic image that draws attention to detail, the work seeks to foster a more sensitive and respectful relationship with our surroundings, reminding us that observation and wonder are also ways of connecting with and caring for the natural world.
