Hands for Nature

Our hands have the power to shape the world around us. They can plant a tree, pull a weed, pick up trash, tend a garden, restore a patch of habitat, or help an injured creature. One pair of hands may accomplish something small. Many hands, working together, can transform a place.

Las Cachinches is part of a living system shared by people, plants, birds, insects, reptiles, mammals, and countless other forms of life. Caring for it means recognizing our interdependence and understanding that the health of the arroyo is inseparable from the life it supports and the community that surrounds it.

Stewardship does not always require grand gestures. It happens when we protect a tree instead of cutting it down, choose plants that provide food and shelter for wildlife, keep trash out of waterways, conserve water, or simply pay enough attention to notice the life around us. Each act becomes part of something larger.

The hands in this mural remind us that caring for nature is both an individual choice and a shared responsibility. When neighbors, artists, children, businesses, and organizations work together, their efforts can ripple far beyond what any one person could accomplish alone.

The future of Las Cachinches will be shaped by many forces, but one of the most important is us. What we protect, what we nurture, and what we leave for those who follow is, quite literally, in our hands.

ARTIST:  David Morin (Spec)

I am Elias David Tavera González, better known as Spectro, an urban artist from San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato. My work spans muralism, illustration, and tattoo art—disciplines that allow me to explore different forms of visual expression and develop a distinctive artistic language. I hold a degree in Digital Design and Audiovisual Production, a background that has strengthened both my creative process and the way I approach each project.

I have been working professionally as a muralist for six years. Throughout my career, I have participated in numerous urban art festivals and developed both commissioned and community mural projects, creating works in Veracruz, Mexico City, and municipalities throughout the state of Guanajuato.

My style combines elements of contemporary graffiti, tattoo art, muralism, and illustration, incorporating vibrant colors, vector forms, and realism. I draw inspiration primarily from nature, culture, and the symbolism that gives identity to people and the places they inhabit.

I see art as a tool for expression, communication, and social transformation. Through my murals, I seek to convey positive messages that encourage reflection and collective awareness, using visual and symbolic language to strengthen the connection between people and their surroundings.

My goal is to create works that foster a sense of belonging, give new meaning to public spaces, and transform them into places of connection, identity, and reflection.

ARTIST STATEMENT

This mural stems from the conviction that nature lives and flourishes thanks to the hands that choose to care for it. The hands represent the community protecting the life that inhabits Las Cachinches, while the turtle shell, the vegetation, the flowers, and the butterflies evoke the natural richness that often goes unnoticed.

The vine that intertwines with our hands reminds us that we are part of the same ecosystem and that our connection to the earth is built through care. The green tones and shimmering light invite us to recognize the magic that exists in this place and in every living being that inhabits it.

With this work, I seek to convey that protecting Las Cachinches is a shared responsibility, because the future of nature will always be in our hands.
